AGING

WRINKLES, LINES

& VOLUME LOSS

AGING IS AN ELABORATE PROCESS;

MENTALLY, PHYSICALLY AND EMOTIONALLY. IN SO MANY WAYS, WE JUST KEEP GETTING BETTER, BUT WE MAY NOT LIKE ALL OF THE CHANGES.

WITH REGARD TO OUR SKIN, AGING IS SO COMPLEX...

LINES & WRINKLES

The most common aging complaint:

"There are actually different kinds of lines."

DYNAMIC LINES  are those only seen with movement, like when you raise your eyebrows, squint, frown or drink from a straw. With these types of lines, Botox injections and Dysport are the treatments of choice. Such skincare treatments help stop the movements that make the lines.

Botox injections are a safe treatment alternative to face-lifts and other plastic surgeries done to achieve a more youthful look. Botox is injected in tiny amounts into the skin to temporarily paralyze the muscles, resulting in decreased appearance of facial wrinkles within a few days. Many people rely on Botox to reduce the appearance of frown lines, crow's feet, and forehead furrows.

Dysport and Xeomin are similar to Botox, creating the effects of smoother, more younger looking skin. Dysport, Xeomin, and Botox can all be used to create a more natural look using a prescription injection to treat moderate to severe lines, by some maintaining facial motion and expression. Injections usually last up to four months.

WRINKLES are lines that have become deeper and more permanent, created by repetitive motion and the depletion of collagen that naturally occurs with maturing.

Common types of aging wrinkles include nasolabial folds, marionette lines, perioral rhytids, chin folds, smile lines, and necklace lines.

Nasolabial folds are the wrinkles that extend vertically from the corner of the nose to the corners of the mouth due to fat depletion. Marionette Lines are the lines that start at the corners of the mouth and move downward, along the chin.

Perioral Rhytids, more commonly known as whistler's or smoker's lines, are the fine lines that appear around the mouth from loss of collagen and repetitive puckering, like when using a straw. Smile lines often appear as commas around the corners of the mouth. Just like perioral rhytids, they occur with collagen loss and repetitive movement.

Chin Folds and Necklace Lines (the horizontal lines that go around the neck like a "necklace") don't necessarily occur from repetitive movements. You are more likely to develop these lines, as well as others mentioned above, by sleeping on your stomach or side. Excessive sun exposure and smoking also put you at risk.

Compression Wrinkles result from stomach sleeping, when the face is squished onto a surface including pillows. This result is sagging skin under the eyes and near the cheeks.

Gravitational Folds are a natural part of the aging process, caused by the decline of elasticity due to lack of collagen production.

For these lines that are even present at rest, dermal fillers are the best treatment. Dermal fillers are a non-surgical option to skin-care and anti-aging treatments. These simple injections of natural Hyaluronic Acid creates smooth, youthful appearing skin. Dermal fillers can last anywhere from six months to two years, and are used to restore the skin's shape and volume while also stimulating collagen production.

VOLUME LOSS

"With the loss of elasticity comes the loss of the youthful glow. "

Volume Loss is a more subtle sign of aging, when the natural process of depletion of collagen, fat, and bone in the face creates a hollowness and skin begins to sag. Over time, people lose that youthful fresh appearance as the natural maturing process results in depletion of collagen, fat and bone in the face.

Genetics, the environment, and time cause people to lose that plump, youthful, and fresh appearance.

Volume loss is often first noticed in the lips, when lipstick begins to bleed slightly. As time goes on, the cheeks will flatten out, and the face loses its volume. Aging can usually be reflected by something known as the "triangle of beauty". This visual reference is based on the perfect, upward facing triangle of young faces. Skin is more evenly distributed, producing high cheekbones, no jowls, smooth skin, and a defined jawline. As we age, the triangle inverts itself; the jawline slackens, eyes hollow, and the cheeks begin to flatten.

Cheeks, temples, the forehead, and lips are often the most noticeable areas of volume loss. As we age, our skin loses its volume and elasticity, causing the skin to sag. Skincare products can be used to help, but ultimately the volume must be restored to revers the effects of volume loss. Dermal filler can be a great solution, which also requires a skilled injector such as those at Youth Secret.
